Thomas J. Curran Scholarship Foundation
Tom Curran was a lifelong resident of the Town of Chelmsford. He was
a graduate of Chelmsford High School and served on the Chelmsford Fire
Department for 20 years, attaining the rank of captain. Tom was an active
and enthusiastic volunteer in many town organizations and charities,
ranging from youth sports to the Fourth of July parade.
Upon his passing in 1985, his wife Kay established the Thomas J. Curran
Scholarship Fund. The purpose of the scholarship was to keep Tom's memory
alive, while benefiting the youth of Chelmsford.
Over the last 20-plus years, hundreds of graduating high school seniors
have been awarded scholarships to help pay for their college education.
Various activities, including an annual dance, a booth at the 4th of
July parade, a basketball tournament,
sponsorship for the running of the Boston Marathon and most recently
our annual golf tournament.
The scholarship fund has also been the recipient of an annual contribution
from the Chelmsford Fire Fighters Local 1839.
All of these activities have allowed the scholarship fund to continue
to award scholarships to deserving high school seniors each year, while
at the same time build an endowment which will allow the foundation
to continue to be an important benefactor to the town of Chelmsford
for many years to come.
